LG G5 Officaly Released

As many of you may know LG finally released  the LG G5 with major changes from from the LG G4 released last year. This was all released at MWC in Barcelona, Spain. This is going to be a busy week for us TechBerge. Anyway keep reading to find out more.

Well as rumored in many articles for months this is the first all metal unibody flagship phone from LG. This brings up the problem of not being able to expand storage with microSD and change the battery like all Apple iPhones. LG obviously thought of that problem and created a feature called Magic Slot. This is like cap or a tray in your phone that has the battery, MicroSD slot and many other modules. This looks just like the Nexus 6P but smaller. LG also gives you some color choices of pink, gold, gray, and silver.

LG G5 specs offical

LG says that the LG G5 will have the Snapdragon 820 and the Adreno 530 GPU with 4GB of RAM. The 820 is told to have 40% faster and power efficient graphics than the 810. LG also shruk the 5.5 inch screen to 5.3 inches but still has the QHD resolution. This new screen is also told to be more power efficient. The camera is still the same as the v10 with 16MP main camera with OIS and a 8MP wided angle lens. LG downgraded another component curcial to the user, battery. The LG G4 had a 3,000 mAh battery but the G5 has a 2,800 mAh battery with similar battery life. This also can be changed later on thanks to the Magic slot. The charging also got a improvement of charging from 0% to 80% in just 35 minutes! The G5 also now has a fingerprint scanner just like the Nexus 6P. LG also transfered to USB type C connection and a speacker next to it.

LG made many modules for the Magic Slot. The first one is a camera module has its own 1200 mAh battery and a physical wheel for zoom. The next one is LG HiFi+ (with B&O play) which is a replacement of the bottom part of the G5 and adds 2 headphone jacks for HiFi+. This supports 32-bit DAC with upsampling, 384KHZ audio, and can be used with another USB-C smartphone. Then we have the LG 360 Cam which is a 360 degree recording module. Each camera can record 200 degrees and cam capture flat or spherical images. This again has its own 1200 mAh battery, 4GB storage and a microSD card slot. Last we have the 360 VR which wasn’t clearly explained.

Software and User Interface

LG this year decided to do a software makeover. They say its much cleaner and less colorful. They  will also be removing the Q slide and dual window features. LG says that it will be a easy to use less clutter UI.

Pricing and Release Date

LG is not sure of a release date yet but says that pricing will be anounced in late March and release in April. Rumors and others say it will be cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge but can cost $600 to $650 unlocked.

Overall I think LG significantly improved performance for the most part. There are some downgrades but that probably for the upgrades of other parts so its a trade off. As I said before I am planning to a new smartphone soon so I am considering this as a option. Anyway thanks for reading and come back this week for more smartphone releases.
